How to Treat Back Pain by Yourself?

Due to my age, I am now getting unpleasant back pain. Firstly, I wonder if back pain is the most common disorder. Then, I searched for more information on websites. Later, I found that the answer is “Definitely Yes!” I may cite from the Nakornthon Hospital, the back pain is the most common pain in daily life after neck pain. Fortunately, most patients can recover on their own in 4-8 weeks by conducting the correct treatment.

What Causes Back Pain?

  1. Unappropriated postures
  2. Some bone and muscle diseases such as: herniated discs, spinal tumor, and degenerative spine
  3. Some mental issues such as: stress
  4. Other causes such as some internal organs diseases

Symptoms of Back Pain

The symptoms of back pain are the pain in the lower back area, the pain can occur to hips and legs too. The pain can be persistent or come and go and it can associate with your postures and activities such as: walking, or standing. Numbness and weakness to the legs can happen too for some cases.

You should know that the most common causes of back pain are abnormalities of spine and back muscles. To prevent and treat back pain, the doctor might suggest you to:

  • Take enough rest, for example, the sudden back pain caused by herniated disc can be treated by laying down on a tight mattress,
  • Control or lose weight for overweight patients, because the overweight patients might get more hurt than proper weight patients,
  • Take pain relievers, such as, paracetamol, aspirin, etc., however, if the back pain does not be relieved after taking the pain relievers for five to seven days, you should consult the doctor,
  • Get physical therapy, which for extreme or chronic back pain,
  • Equip orthotics,
  • Get needle or anesthesia for muscle loosening,
  • Adjust the correct position in sitting, standing, or lifting heavy objects.

Back Pain Self-Treatment

There are ways to reduce back pain by yourself:

  • Having a painkiller or NSAIDs
  • Decreasing inflammation by cold compression
  • Having back stretch
  • Getting massage

If your back pain does not get better after your self-treatment, medical treatment is recommended.
